Country Grid at a Glance
A 3×3 grid of countries: every row and every column has a rule, like "In Africa" or "Drive on the left", and each cell needs a country that fits both. Twelve guesses for nine cells, each country once, and rarer answers score more. A new grid every day and unlimited practice. Free.

How to Play Country Grid
- Tap a cell, then type a country that fits both its row and its column, and press Go.
- Right: the country fills the cell with its points. Wrong: it still uses one of your 12 guesses.
- Each country can be used once. A country that spans two continents (Turkey, Russia) never counts for a continent rule.
- When you finish or give up, every empty cell shows some of the answers you could have used.
How points work
Every cell has several right answers. They are ranked by population: the most populous right answer scores 10 points and the least populous 100, with the rest in between. A perfect grid of obvious answers scores 90; a grid of rare ones can score 900.
The rules
Continents; the EU and the G7; landlocked, island and Southern Hemisphere countries; monarchies; countries that drive on the left; Spanish or Portuguese as an official language; the neighbours of Russia, China, Brazil and Germany; the coasts of the Baltic, the Black Sea, the Caspian and the Mediterranean; the Danube and the Andes; the Equator; over 150 million people or 2 million km²; names ending in -stan; the former Soviet republics; and flags with a Nordic cross or a Union Jack. Every grid is checked so each cell has at least three answers.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a new grid every day?
Yes, the same for everyone, changing at midnight where you are. Practice grids are unlimited.
Why doesn't Turkey count for "In Asia"?
Turkey, Russia, Kazakhstan, Egypt and the Caucasus countries span two continents, or are argued over, so they never count for a continent rule. That keeps every cell fair.
Do wrong guesses cost anything?
Each guess, right or wrong, uses one of your 12. Typing a country you already used, or one that isn't a country, does not.
Can a class play the same grid?
Yes. Set a class challenge from the Teachers page and every pupil gets the same grid.
