How to Play the Pakistan Map Quiz

  1. Before you start, tap any part of the map to see its name, or press "Show names" to label them all.
  2. Pick a round: Provinces names each province and territory, Capitals names its capital city.
  3. Click the right place on the map. Islamabad is tiny, so it has a ring around it that counts as a click.
  4. After each answer the right place lights up, so a mistake still teaches you where it is.

The four provinces of Pakistan

Punjab is home to more than half of Pakistan’s people, about 128 million at the 2023 census, with Lahore as its capital. Sindh, in the south, holds Karachi, the largest city and the country’s main port. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa lies in the north west along Afghanistan, with Peshawar as its capital. Balochistan is by far the largest province, about 44 percent of Pakistan’s land, but has the fewest people; its capital is Quetta.

In 2018 the Federally Administered Tribal Areas joined Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, so older maps show one more unit along the Afghan border. This map shows Pakistan after that merger.

Islamabad, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir

Islamabad Capital Territory is a federal territory, not part of any province, built in the 1960s as the new capital next to Rawalpindi. Gilgit-Baltistan in the far north, with K2 and most of Pakistan’s highest peaks, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir are administered by Pakistan with their own assemblies but are not provinces. The wider Kashmir region is disputed between Pakistan, India and China; the map shows the areas Pakistan administers, and the parts administered by India and China are hatched.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many provinces does Pakistan have?

Four: Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Pakistan also has Islamabad Capital Territory and two administered territories, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, which makes seven units on the map.

Which is the largest province of Pakistan?

Balochistan by area, about 347,000 km², roughly 44 percent of the country. Punjab is the largest by population, with about 128 million people in 2023.

What are the capitals of the provinces?

Lahore (Punjab), Karachi (Sindh), Peshawar (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) and Quetta (Balochistan). Gilgit is the capital of Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad of Azad Kashmir, and Islamabad is the national capital.

Is Gilgit-Baltistan a province?

No. Gilgit-Baltistan has its own assembly, chief minister and governor, but it is an administered territory, not one of the four provinces in the constitution.

What happened to FATA?

The Federally Administered Tribal Areas were merged into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in 2018, so they are now districts of that province.
