How to Play the crossword

  1. Click or tap a square and type. Click the same square again, or a clue, to switch between across and down.
  2. Answers are written without spaces, accents or hyphens; the numbers after a clue, like (6, 5) for Buenos Aires, give the length of each word.
  3. Check shows wrong letters in red; Reveal word fills the word you are on; Reveal all shows the answers.
  4. Print gives the empty grid with its clues and, on a second page, the answer key.

Where the puzzles come from

Every puzzle is built by a program from the facts behind the site's other games: the capitals of the Capital City quiz, the US states and their capitals, the rivers of the physical maps, the flags and the currencies. It picks the words and fits them together, so each puzzle is checked against the same facts as the quizzes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a new crossword every day?

Yes: the 5×5 mini changes at midnight and is the same for everyone that day. The themed puzzles stay the same, so a class can all print the same one.

Can I print the crossword?

Yes. Print gives the empty grid with its clues and a second page with the answers, ready for a lesson or homework.

How do I type on a phone?

Tap a square: the keyboard opens and the letters move along the word as you type.
