How to Play Guess the Country
- Look at the outline of the mystery country.
- Type a country and press Enter. Suggestions appear after four letters.
- Each wrong guess shows how far away the answer is, which direction it lies in and how close you are as a percentage.
- Name it within six guesses, share your result and come back tomorrow for a new one.

One mystery country, six guesses and a clue every time you miss. It is one of the fastest ways to learn where countries are, because every wrong guess tells you which way to look next.
How the Clues Work
Distance is measured from the middle of your guess to the middle of the answer, in kilometres.
The arrow points from your guess towards the answer, so ↗️ means head north-east.
The percentage shows how close you are, from 0% on the far side of the world to 100% for the right answer. After three wrong guesses you are told the continent, and after five the first letter too.
Tips for Guessing the Country
Start big and central. A first guess in the middle of a continent, like Germany, Chad or Kazakhstan, gives you a useful direction whatever the answer.
Follow the arrow, not the shape. Once you know the direction and distance, pick the country that sits that far away, even if the outline does not look right yet.
Use the outline for the last step. Coastlines, long borders and islands are much easier to recognise once you have narrowed it down to a region.
