How to Play the quiz
- Pick a level: Easy for kids and school, Medium, or Hard (geography bee level). Or the daily five, the same for everyone today.
- Each question has four answers. Pick one: the right answer turns green, and a short explanation tells you why.
- Read it, then tap Next. A round never asks the same question twice.
- Scores go on the leaderboard. Teachers can set any level as a class challenge, with every pupil getting the same questions.
What the questions cover
Seven topics: rivers and lakes, mountains and volcanoes, deserts and climate, countries and borders, cities and people, oceans, seas and islands, and records and lines on the map (the tropics, the Date Line, the largest and smallest). There are 105 easy questions, 105 medium ones and 102 hard ones.
How the facts were checked
Every question was checked against Wikipedia, and areas, borders and coastlines against the CIA World Factbook. Questions whose answer is disputed are left out: the longest river in the world (the Nile or the Amazon, depending on how they are measured) and the largest city (it depends on where a city is said to end) are not asked.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the longest river in the world the Nile or the Amazon?
It depends on where you measure from: both are about 6,400 to 7,000 km, and studies disagree. That is why the quiz asks for the longest river in Africa (the Nile) and the river that carries the most water (the Amazon) instead.
Is this good practice for a geography bee?
Yes: the Hard level asks the kind of questions geography bees use, on straits, deserts, tropics and capitals, and the explanations help you remember them.
Can I print the questions?
Yes. The 100 questions and answers below the game print on their own, for a class, a pub quiz or a car trip.
How many questions are there?
312, in seven topics and three levels. More are added over time.
