How to Play the Countries of the World Quiz
- Pick a level (15, 10 or 5 minutes), or pick a challenge such as a continent or the G7, then press Start.
- Type a country and press Enter. After four letters a suggestion appears, and you can tap it on a phone.
- Each country you name fills in with its flag and stays on the globe for the rest of the round.
- Finish a whole region and it is framed in gold. When the clock stops, you see your score and every group you completed.

There are 195 countries in the world. This quiz asks the simplest possible question about them: how many can you name from memory? Type a country, press Enter, and the globe spins to it and fills it in. No multiple choice, no hints, just you, a timer and a planet slowly filling with colour.
How the Countries of the World Quiz Works
Pick a level, then press Start. Easy gives you 15 minutes, Difficult gives you 10, and Hell gives you 5. The list is the same on every level: all 195 countries, the 193 member states of the United Nations plus the Holy See (Vatican City) and Palestine.
Or take a challenge. Pick a continent, a region such as the Middle East or Southeast Asia, or a set like the Stans or the G7 from the challenge list. Then choose a clock from 15 seconds to 5 minutes, or the stopwatch to see how fast you can name them all. The globe frames the region, only its countries count, and your best for each challenge is saved.
Type and press Enter. After four letters the nearest country you haven't found yet appears as a suggestion. Press Enter to use it, or tap it on a phone. If it isn't the one you mean, keep typing. Capital letters, accents and punctuation don't matter, and common names count too, so USA, UK, Ivory Coast, Czech Republic, Burma and DRC are all accepted.
Watch it fill in. Each correct answer flies the globe to that country and fills it with its flag, which stays there for the rest of the round. Countries too small to hold a flag on screen glow in a soft version of the flag's main colour instead, so Pakistan shows green and Japan shows red. Prefer to see the whole world at once? Switch to the Flat map, which never zooms, or press Zoom out to keep the globe zoomed out. The A-Z tab shows how many you have left under each letter.
Finish a region. Name the last country of a continent, a region such as the Middle East, Southeast Asia or the Caribbean, or a set like the Stans or the G7, and the globe pulls back to show the whole group framed in gold, with confetti. The border stays for the rest of the round, and the results list every group you completed.
How to Name All 195 Countries
Go continent by continent. Racing through at random means you lose track of what you have already said. Sweep one region at a time: Europe, then Africa, then Asia, the Americas and Oceania.
Walk the borders. Once you have a country, name its neighbours. After France comes Spain, Andorra, Monaco, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Luxembourg and Belgium. The map does the remembering for you.
Save the islands for last, but don't skip them. The Caribbean has 13 countries and Oceania has 14, and they are where most runs stall. Learn them as a set and you will add 20 or more to your score almost overnight.

How many countries are in this quiz?
195: the 193 member states of the United Nations plus the two UN observer states, the Holy See (Vatican City) and Palestine. Territories such as Greenland, Puerto Rico and Hong Kong are not included.
What are the time limits for each mode?
Easy is 15 minutes, Difficult is 10 minutes and Hell is 5 minutes. The countries are the same in every mode; only the clock changes.
Can I play just one region?
Yes. Pick a challenge before you start: any continent, a region such as the Middle East, Southeast Asia or the Caribbean, or a set like the Stans, the G7 or the European Union. Choose a time limit from 15 seconds to 5 minutes, or the stopwatch to race the clock.
Does the quiz autocomplete country names?

Does Greenland count as a country?
No. Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark, along with the Faroe Islands, so both light up when you name Denmark. Neither is counted separately in the 195.
Is Taiwan in the quiz?
Yes, as a bonus. Taiwan and Kosovo are not members of the United Nations, so they are not part of the 195, but typing either one lights it up on the map. Bonus places never count against your score.
What happens when I finish a region?
The globe pulls back to show the whole group, draws a gold border around it and throws confetti, and the border stays for the rest of the round. Every continent counts, along with regions such as the Middle East, Southeast Asia, the Caribbean and West Africa, and sets like the Stans, the G7, the European Union and the Nordic countries.
Which countries do people forget most often?
Small island nations: Tuvalu, Nauru, Palau, Kiribati, the Marshall Islands, Saint Kitts and Nevis, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Landlocked microstates like Liechtenstein, San Marino and Andorra are close behind.
