World Capitals Map Quiz at a Glance
Every country's capital city as a dot on the world map: 195 capitals in six rounds, one per continent. A capital is named and you click its dot; each round opens on its continent. Turn on No borders for the hard version: no dots and no borders, points by how close you click. Free, with no sign-up.

How to Play the quiz
- Click any dot before you start to see which capital it is and its country.
- Pick a continent. A capital is named with its country, and you click its dot; the map opens on that continent, and you can zoom or drag to see the rest.
- Where dots crowd together (the Balkans, the Caribbean, West Africa) a tap on a phone opens a magnifier. A click inside the dot's circle counts, so you don't need to hit its centre.
- No borders hides the dots and the borders: click where the capital is, 100 points inside its circle and up to 90 for a near miss.
Capitals that moved
Several countries built or chose a new capital away from their biggest city: Brasília replaced Rio de Janeiro in 1960, Abuja replaced Lagos in 1991, Astana replaced Almaty in 1997, Naypyidaw replaced Yangon in 2006, and Gitega replaced Bujumbura in 2019. Côte d'Ivoire's capital has been Yamoussoukro since 1983, while Abidjan is still its biggest city.
Countries with more than one capital
South Africa splits its government between Pretoria (executive), Cape Town (parliament) and Bloemfontein (courts); this quiz asks for Pretoria. Bolivia's constitution names Sucre, while the government sits in La Paz. The Netherlands' capital is Amsterdam, but the government and parliament are in The Hague. Switzerland has no capital in its constitution: Bern is its "federal city".
The closest capitals
Vatican City lies inside Rome, so their dots sit on top of each other. Kinshasa and Brazzaville face each other across the Congo River, the closest pair of capitals of two countries that don't enclose one another. Vienna and Bratislava are about 55 km apart. Where dots overlap, a click inside the asked capital's circle counts.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many capital cities are there?
195 in this quiz: the 193 UN member states, Vatican City and Palestine, one capital each. Some countries have more than one seat of government (South Africa, Bolivia, the Netherlands); the quiz uses the capital the Capital City quiz uses.
Which continent has the most capitals?
Africa, with 54 countries. Asia has 47 and Europe 45 in this quiz.
What is the capital of Australia?
Canberra, built as a compromise between Sydney and Melbourne; Parliament has met there since 1927.
Why is the dot for Vatican City on top of Rome?
Vatican City is a city-state inside Rome, so its capital is the whole country. A click on the shared spot counts for whichever of the two is asked.
What is No borders?
A harder mode: the dots and the borders disappear and you click where the capital is. Inside its circle scores 100 points; a near miss scores up to 90, less the farther it is.
