Asia Map Quiz: Why Jordan Is the Hardest Country to Find
October 26, 2026 ยท 4 min read
Asia is the biggest continent, and our Asia map quiz asks you to find 45 countries on it, from Turkey to Japan. Across 918 answers since late September 2026, players got 59% right.
The big countries are easy: India and China were found every single time, Japan 93%, Indonesia 89% and Saudi Arabia 88%. The trouble starts with the small countries in the Middle East, Central Asia and South-East Asia.
The countries players miss most
| Country | Found |
|---|---|
| Jordan | 12% |
| Malaysia | 28% |
| Myanmar | 30% |
| Lebanon | 32% |
| Timor-Leste | 35% |
| Bhutan | 38% |
| Tajikistan | 39% |
| Armenia | 39% |
| Brunei | 41% |
| Taiwan | 42% |
| Bangladesh | 43% |
| Palestine | 45% |
Each country here was asked between 17 and 25 times, so one or two answers can move a percentage by a few points. The overall picture is clear, though.
Jordan: everyone knows it, almost nobody finds it
Jordan is the hardest country on our Asia map. Only 3 of 25 players found it. The wrong clicks went to Saudi Arabia, Yemen and Syria: players knew it was in the Middle East but not where.
Here is the trick. Find Israel and the Dead Sea. Jordan is directly east of them. Syria is to its north, Iraq to its east, and Saudi Arabia wraps around its south. Jordan's only coastline is a short stretch around the port of Aqaba, at the top of the Red Sea.
Lebanon (32%) is the other Middle East trap. It is the small country on the Mediterranean coast north of Israel, with Syria behind it. Players looking for Lebanon often clicked Palestine, further down the same coast.
Malaysia comes in two pieces
Malaysia scored only 28%, which surprised us until we looked at the wrong answers. Malaysia is split in two: the peninsula south of Thailand, with Kuala Lumpur, and the states of Sabah and Sarawak on the island of Borneo. Players looking for Malaysia on Borneo often clicked Brunei, the tiny country tucked into Malaysia's coast there.
Timor-Leste (35%) is the eastern half of the island of Timor, north of Australia. The western half belongs to Indonesia.
The five Stans
Central Asia has five countries ending in "-stan", and players mix them up constantly:
| Asked for | Clicked instead | Times |
|---|---|---|
| Kyrgyzstan | Uzbekistan | 4 |
| Kazakhstan | Uzbekistan | 3 |
| Uzbekistan | Kyrgyzstan | 3 |
| Kyrgyzstan | Tajikistan | 3 |
| Tajikistan | Turkmenistan | 3 |
| Afghanistan | Pakistan | 4 |
Here is how to place them:
- Kazakhstan is the giant on top, the largest landlocked country in the world.
- Uzbekistan is in the middle, below it. It is one of only two countries on Earth surrounded entirely by other landlocked countries.
- Turkmenistan is to the south-west, on the Caspian Sea.
- Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan are the two small mountain countries in the south-east. Kyrgyzstan is the northern one; Tajikistan is below it, on the border with Afghanistan.
If you want to drill just this region, our Countries of the World quiz has a short Stans challenge.
South Asia and the Himalayas
Bhutan (38%) is a small kingdom in the Himalayas between India and China. Bangladesh (43%) is almost completely surrounded by India, with a short border with Myanmar and a coast on the Bay of Bengal. Myanmar (30%) is the large country between Bangladesh and Thailand. Its long southern tail runs down beside Thailand.
How to learn the map of Asia
- Anchor with the giants. Russia across the top, China, India, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia.
- Do the Middle East as a puzzle. Turkey at the top, then Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Palestine, Jordan, Iraq, Iran, and the Gulf states down the Arabian Peninsula. Our Middle East map quiz focuses on just this region.
- Learn Central Asia by size. Kazakhstan, then Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, then the two small mountain countries.
- Finish with South-East Asia. Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam on the mainland; Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia, the Philippines and Timor-Leste on the islands.
Then play the Asia map quiz. The page also has a labeled map to study first, and every country's flag and capital is listed below the game.
