How to Play the India Cities Quiz
- Pick a level: Easy has the big cities, Difficult other cities and state capitals, So Difficult small towns, hill stations and islands.
- A city is named: click the state or union territory it is in.
- After each answer the right state lights up, so you learn where the city is even when you miss.
- Ten questions a round. Play again for a new set.
Renamed cities
Many Indian cities have new official names: Bombay is Mumbai, Madras Chennai, Calcutta Kolkata, Bangalore Bengaluru, Gurgaon Gurugram and Allahabad Prayagraj. Aurangabad became Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar in 2023, and Port Blair, the capital of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, became Sri Vijaya Puram in 2024. The quiz uses the current names.
Kashmir on this map
The Kashmir region is disputed between India, Pakistan and China. India claims all of it; the map shows the areas each country administers. The parts administered by Pakistan (Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir) and by China (Aksai Chin and the Shaksgam Valley) are hatched and are not part of the quiz. China also claims most of Arunachal Pradesh, which India administers.

Is Mahe in Kerala?
Mahe is surrounded by Kerala, but it belongs to the union territory of Puducherry, like Karaikal and Yanam: they were the French settlements in India until 1954.
What is the old name of Sri Vijaya Puram?
Port Blair. The capital of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands was renamed in September 2024.
