Uzbekistan is a country in Central Asia, with its capital in Tashkent. About 37.1 million people live there (2025), making it the 42nd most populous of the 195 countries. At 447,400 km², it is the 56th largest country by area. It is doubly landlocked: its only neighbours, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, have no coastline either.
