What the colours mean
On Ireland's flag, green stands for the Irish nationalist tradition, orange for the Protestant tradition, and white for peace between them. Ivory Coast's orange stands for the savanna in the north, white for peace and green for the forests of the south.
A trick to remember it
Ireland is the Emerald Isle, and its flag starts with green at the flagpole. If the flag starts with orange, it is Ivory Coast. Careful with a flag hanging the wrong way round: the flagpole side decides.
