About the Map of Europe
This map of Europe shows 46 countries, from Iceland in the northwest to Russia in the east. Russia and Turkey also appear on the map of Asia, since both reach across the two continents. Vatican City, the smallest country in the world, sits inside Rome, and microstates such as Monaco, San Marino and Liechtenstein are easiest to spot on the map with names.
Tips for Learning the Countries
- Learn Europe in regions: Scandinavia, the Baltic states, Western Europe, Central Europe, the Balkans and Eastern Europe.
- The Balkans are the hardest part of the map for most people. Learn them around Serbia: Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Croatia all border it.
- Watch the pairs people swap. Slovakia is north of Hungary and Slovenia west of it. Of the three Baltic states, Estonia is at the top, Latvia in the middle and Lithuania at the bottom.
