About the Map of the Philippines
The Philippines is divided into 18 administrative regions in three island groups: Luzon in the north, the Visayas in the middle and Mindanao in the south. Most regions also have a number, such as Region I for the Ilocos Region. The National Capital Region holds Metro Manila, and Bangsamoro in Mindanao is an autonomous region.
Tips for Learning the Regions
- Learn the three island groups first, then the regions inside each: Luzon has 8 regions, the Visayas 4 and Mindanao 6.
- The region numbers mostly run from north to south, so Region I is at the top of Luzon and Region XIII, Caraga, is in northeastern Mindanao.
- The Negros Island Region, created in 2024, joins Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental and Siquijor.
How to Use These Maps
- Study: print the blank map and label it from memory, then check it against the map with names.
